Exploring Eden

Exploring Eden Media is an independent publishing house focussed on in-depth, highly curated information for travellers, rather than tourists. Their writers and creators are award-winning tour guides and authors, experienced travellers and passionate explorers.

It was founded by Melissa Connell and Brendan Batty, who both have a passion for travelling slowly, because it’s as much about the destination as it is about the journey.

"As book publishers, we are exceptionally aware of the impact our small business has on the environment. We’re consumers of trees, fossil fuels, minerals and chemicals, most of which have detrimental effects to the finite resources of this planet and the environment we love to explore. We are continually trying to find ways to overcome those issues. Already we’ve eliminated single-use plastic from our shipping processes, and we’ve committed to only using Forest Stewardship Council approved paper in all of our books. But there’s still more we can do.

For every book we sell we’ll plant one tree in partnership with Eden Reforestation Projects. The average book has a carbon footprint of around 2.5kg. The average tree offsets around 25kg of carbon emissions each year. For some perspective, that’s, on average, about 10 times the amount of CO2 emitted in the production of one copy of one of our books offset every year the tree lives (hopefully hundreds of years)."
